GALANG

i can't get enough of m.i.a. i got the cd this weekend and it's been on heavy rotation all day at the office. if you haven't heard maya arulpragasam (aka m.i.a.) then you're missing out. the sri lankan answer to dizzee rascal, ms. arulpragasam's sound is is all her own and i'm LOVING it. seriously, LOVING it. and to top it off, her style and video design is SUPER hot. i just watched galang online and i'm hooked. HOOKED. its spraypaint stencil style art is a welcome change to all the super smooth graphic gunk clogging up networks like mtv and vh1. it's raw, it's in your face, it's m.i.a. her sound is part revolutionary, part tribal, part jamaican dub and ALL good. really, can't recommend it more. it only took a day to grow on me. nuff said. hope i don't play it to death. even if her sound isn't for you, the look is gorgeous and deserves a second glance. so check her web here (it's down right now but should be back up soon) and the video here. i love it. love it. enjoy...

Wow, nice to see M.I.A. getting more and more recognition. If you like Arular then you'll absolutely love the mixtape she did with diplo before the samples on Arular were cleared. Its called 'Piracy Funds Terrorism v1' and is incredible. It has a lot of the same tracks, but the mixes are much better. Pretty much anything diplo touches comes out excellent though. I'm pretty sure you can still pick up the mixtape from turntablelab.com .

I love M.I.A.'s fashion sense. I really hope that look comes back...oversized t-shirts and tight pants, what a great look.

hehe i just found out about MIA about a month ago from some UK friends... so so good... i downloaded everything i could from iTunes... and yeah the Diplo mixes are tha bomba
hey also
have you peeped this out?
http://www.audioscrobbler.com
this hooks into whatever you use to listen to music on your computer, keeps records and charts your listening, and then after you have 300 songs logged you can create a "personal fm" station and even listen to firends radio stations! pretty cool... i get to listen to my friend's music collections in UK, belgium, etc. (although i'm not exactly sure what technology is allowing this?)

(haha i just looked and MIA was second on my list of most played last week!

Yeah, took one listen to Galang on a mates compilation CD last year and I wanted to find more of her stuff. Digged M.I.A.'s first album quicker than I digged any tunes on the Saul Williams album (and that's a safe album!) 'Piracy Funds Terrorism' samples that I have are the bomb - but i can't find the full tracks or even the album anywhere?
