david knott
david knott is an australian designer based in sydney. educated at the university of canberra, david has a wonderful eye for form and surface texture. i'm quite fond of his most recent design, the lotus pendant lamp, and an older work, cube, which beautifully combines the contrasting textures of cast concrete with smooth, clear resin.
knott's lotus lamps, produced in 2005, are made of laser cut aluminum panels with an acid etched pattern. the delicately etched floral pattern contrasted with the raw, metallic surface has a lovely effect. much like the lotus lamp, the cast concrete cubes combine the porous texture of concrete with liquid smooth resin, casting a beautiful glow courtesy of a battery powered.
neither of these designs are available through a manufacturer right now, but you can contact david for more information. i just thought it would be nice to share some beautiful design out there. more info on the designer's work right here

Looks almost volcanic - solidified metal with bright molten metal inside.
