I would check out Manayunk. There are a strip of stores that are really neat. Hope you have a great time in Philly!
I am not in Philly, but I know the Galbraith and Paul showroom/shop is there
Cool, Philly will be so fun for you!
Mode Moderne is here, http://www.modemoderne.com/
same street has Foster's Urban Hardware, shopfosters.com
Also nearby is Minima http://www.minima.us
There are a few other neat shops on 3rd.
Then yes you have to check out Galbraith and Paul, there's a brand new West Elm nearby, and another great store on 13th - I'll try to figure out the name. Perilously close to capogiro.com !!!
We have a complex called Marketplace Design Center marketplacedesignphila.com/ where I've alway wanted to go, that's downtown too, at 24th.
Then we have lots of architectural elements stores like ReStore, www.re-store-online.com, Architectural Antiques - architecturalantiques.com, and one more I can't remember but can figure out.
And of course we have tons of fun stores like Art Star artstarphilly.com/, Hot Soup glass studio - hotsoupstudio.com/, lots of stuff like this.
Blendo
1002 Pine St
Philadelphia, PA 19107-6007
(215) 351-9260
antique row
Sassy vintage boutique that's as fun to dig into as a general store
I was going to suggest most of the shops mentioned, but here are a couple more:
Antiquarian's Delight
615 S 6TH St
(215) 592-0256
-this is a huge building full of vendors selling everything vintage from soup to nuts. Lots or furniture and decorative items.
Bambi
1817 Frankford Ave.
215-423-2668
www.bambiproject.com
A little off the beaten path, this is an art gallery that also consigns retail options such as hand made jewelry, decorative stuff, etc.
I just moved from Philly. Miss it terribly and will be back for a conference in April. You must check out Petulia's Folly on 17th and Sansom, along with the AIA bookstore, also on 17th and Sansom. And on the same block as "Open House," is the best Gelato outside of Italy, Capogiro. Also fun is The Black Cat near the Penn campus on 34th and Sansom. Another place I love is Blendo, on 10th and Pine, in the "antiques row" neighborhood. It's full of contemporary and vintage gifts and home designs. Literally crammed full. But everything is lovingly selected. And finally you must check out Halloween, jewelry designer Henri David's gothic palace on Pine Street (and junpier? or maybe 12th?). It's difficult to spot-- looks like one of the many townhouses on the street, but there is a tiny card in the window. When you enter it is cavernous and magical and the jewelry is fantastic. Also a huge collection of vintage pieces.
Oh god, I shop too much...
Also try Petulia's Folly
1710 Sansom St.
(215) 569-1344
-a gorgeous selection of home stuff like throws, pillows, etc. Some Hable Construction items.
And of course, the AIA Bookstore, almost right across the intersection at 17th & Sansom. Mecca for design/architecture books, and a slew of neato gadgets and gifts.

Just adding to the list here.
In northern Liberties (~10 blocks North of Market St on 2nd st) P.A.D. (http://www.pad-home.com/) is across the street from Architecturalantiques (mentioned above). As well as vintage modern just a little further north (906 N 2nd St). Around the corner from vintage modern is a coffee shop called the Ground Floor which regularly showcases local artists of high quality (no web presence, but already in the inquirer http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/12826988.htm). You can also get coffee at The Pond (630 N 2nd St) (http://www.pondcoffee.com/), very nice interior and amazing breakfast burritos.
In Old City, on Third St. Be sure to check out Vagabond/Honeymilk ( http://seamsters.net/2006/01/26/store-alert-honeymilk/)
As well as a wonderful pastry shop called Petit 4 (http://www.partyspace.com/facilitypages/petit4/main_page.htm) also close to Fosters (montioned above).
DH just got a job offer for the Philly area. I will be checking in often to see your reports. Thanks to rest of the readers for the links.

Matthew Izzo
1109 Walnut St and 928 Pine St
www.matthewizzo.com
Usona
113 S. 16th (between Chestnut and Sansom)
www.usonahome.com
In Old City, Minima
http://minima.us/
high concept, super-expensive modern furniture and accessories.
Already mentioned, but Town Home's site is http://www.townhomephila.com/, they have nice tableware, vases, etc.
Plus no one mentioned it so I assuming
you already know about Matthew Izzo. They have a clothing store, a home store, and now a huge "lifestyle" store with lots of furniture, accessories and clothing. http://www.matthewizzo.com
Matthew Izzo has several locations in Philly... and he has a great eye.
http://www.matthewizzo.com/catalog/
The website isn't nearly as enticing as the store though...
You also might want to check out Hot Soup Glass Studio for local artisan made glass. http://www.hotsoupstudio.com
By the way...in my opinion, Manayunk is a great place to go for drinks, but if you're looking for great shopping...you should probably stick to N.Libs and the others recommended here. Especially if you have limited time. Petulia's Folly is good as some others have mentioned.
By the way...for really higher end modern furniture, you should make sure to hit Minima in Old City. Their space is great....and you'll probably be in that area based on some of the other best places to shop. :-)
http://minima.us/
These have already been mentioned, but FWIW, my list would be:
- Open House (their taste matches d*s 100%, and their prices are great)
- Foster's Urban Homeware
- Matthew Izzo (he's in the middle of moving, so check out both the Pine and Walnut locations)
- AIA Bookstore
- Paper On Pine
...while you're on Pine, also be sure to check out:
- Linu Boutique
what about a must visit list like this for major cities for your blog?
psst: please see "guide". it's coming soon. i'm one woman trying to do it all alone, so i promise i'm working as fast as i can ;)

Kellijane
1721 Spruce Street
This is a must see!
Not sure what your timline is, but designphiladelphia is going on April 1-9. There are some cool events including some at the Marketplace Design Center, which is normally open only to interior designers. http://www.designphiladelphia.org/
Moore College of Art and Design also has a shop that carries student and alumni pieces including artwork, jewelry, accessories, etc. There's not a lot of selection on the website but it'll give you an idea of what they carry. http://www.moore.edu/index.cfm/nodeID/e4024d66-6d11-4be3-bade-f20c16d6f341//fuseaction/content.page
Also, on Pine Street (near Hello World and right next to Blendo) is Show of Hands. Every year they have the most beautiful selection of Christmas Tree ornaments!
