project runway: au revoir vincent!

pr

the producers finally let vincent go so now we can live through another wednesday night without hearing what "gets him off". that gives me the willies. gross. poor laura, she's next. i don't know how kayne's still in but at least his bodice was fitted well. and apparently hell frozen over a second time today because i was rooting for jeffrey the whole time. that plaid was fantastic. so, dish away. who do you think is the next auf? laura? prom-queen kayne?

Laura and Kayne are the next two, in some order.

Michael dodged a bullet. But at least he (and Jeffrey) seemed to be trying to make a couture dress. I like Uli but does buying hand-done fabric take the place of doing it by hand in this task?

Kayne. Gone. For Sure.

Thank GOD Vincent is off.. I'm suprised he made it that far. I really like Laura, but she's pregnant, and that is gonna mess with her systems. I really liked the structure of Kayne's bodice, though it was way too glittery... It's really tough, but I'm hoping Kayne is off. ((I still have a grudge b/c of Keith's exit. Boo.))

Oh, that sucks. :( :(

Every other blog on my rss reader gives warning that their entry contains a spoiler, except for yours. That way we're given an opportunity to read further or no, if we haven't seen the show yet. Your title just gives it away, with no warning whatsoever.

Might I request, that with the remaining episodes in coming weeks, that you don't put the name of the ousted designer in your title? I've noticed everyone else says something like, "Project Runway Spoiler." I don't mean to be rude, I promise. I 100% doubt you meant to do it purposely, and it probably didn't occur to you.

If either of my two RSS readers gave notice that it was your post, I would have known from past history that your post contains spoilers. However, none of my readers let me know. I see your entry titles FIRST and then the owner of the entry, afterward. :( I can't be the only one.

Laura is starting to bore me. I'd rather see another Uli patterned dress then Laura's "classic" dresses. Yes, Kayne and Laura are next. In that order.

vincnt stayed on way past his time. his swooning over malandrino was hard to watch.
jeffrey's dress was fantastic.
uli's dress was gorgeous but sooo similar to all the dresses she makes...ditto for laura- i ususally like her dresses but i'm tired of seeing her and her model's boney chests in every dress she makes. laura will definitely be aufed next. she'll run out of energy - which, quite frankly, she should have thought of before getting pregnant..again! clearly she in not a good planner:) while i love kayne, he ain't high fashion...i think i am rooting for michael. besides being talented, he just seems like a cool guy.

hmm..i'm not sure how i feel about the spoiler, sorry. this post has always been a spoiler of sorts because we discuss the episode, so i'm afraid i can't make any promises about titles. i've put winners and losers in the last two seasons of PR posts, too so i'm afraid it happens sometimes. i'll try to do my best to keep them out of the title but please be aware that we've done three seasons of PR commenting like this for 2 years so i'm afraid it's habit.

thanks

I liked Kayne's contruction as well and so did Madame Malandrino. But, it was too glittery. I didn't love Jeffrey's dress personally, but can see why it won. I've been in that fabric store - Tissues Reine. They have lots of fabulous fabric stores right there - so I was surprised that, aside from Jeffrey, their fabric choices were generally very bland - safe - I guess. When they were sitting on the lawn in front of the Sacre Coeur, they were literally across the street from that fabric store. They didn't need to make the trudge up that long staircase up Montmartre, the metro line runs very close on the other side. I felt bad for pregnant Laura. Guess by now it's between Michael and Jeffrey. And sadly, I think Jeffrey has the edge. He has "mad skillz" as he himself says (ass!) and more experience than Michael.

Oh I feel so bad for Michael! I think he's showing his inexperience so I'm worried. Then again, I don't know how well many popular designers these days can sew by hand. Can they? Or is that something relegated to couture these days? Does anyone know if you have to learn to hand sew in design school?

You would think that they should learn to hand sew as part of their cirriculum. There are some things you can't do otherwise. I had to learn to do hand drawings in interior design school, even tho there are plenty of software programs out there. And you can buy Vogue couture dress patterns that include the directions requiring all the hand sewing - french seams, etc. I made one a couple of years ago. I never wore the dress - but that's a different story! Hard to imagine that someone looking to make it in the design world isn't thinking about couture.

I really loved that plaid. And even in the previous show he won going with what's hot in trends now. Skulls, goth, plaids. I love also Ulie's dress who was very close to winning.

I agree with you. Loved the plaid. The only original looking one out of the bunch.

I don't understand why people like Jeffrey so much. Even if his tattoo is his kid's name, he's still a total jerk. I think the plaid was a nice idea but the way he styled his model was completely NON couture.

I really like Laura's approach and would love to see what she can do with a complete collection. No one on that show creates pieces that fit better, are tailored more beautifully, or show such a consistent vision. I think she's probably capable of more exciting work than she's shown on PR, and that her reluctance to take risks is more strategic than anything else (you've just got to make it through to the next round, after all, to stay in the game). As for the pregnancy--it may be difficult to operate in such a pressure cooker when you've got so much going on physically and emotionally, but she may also fare just fine. I worked for an architectural design firm for three years with amazing women who worked more than full-time hours up until the birth. They weren't on tv, no, but they were working with demanding, high-profile clients. So who knows? Maybe she'll get a second wind and go for the gold!

SPOILER ALERT: I read somewhere, forget where... (Gawker? Page Six?) that Laura was recently seen in Mood Fabrics talking very loudly about her $9,000 budget for fabric... seemed to have been in prep for showing at Bryant Park next week... also I saw in the Daily that auf'd Talan is showing! Wonder what his show will be like....

I'm still rooting for Michael. Been his #1 from the first episode with that lovely coffee filter dress. Next auf? Kayne. Most definitely. I agree with Nina— the man can definitely sew clothes and understands women's form but his taste level is seriously lacking sometimes.

i don't begrudge jeffrey the win. his gown was daring and creative. but i don't see him as a winner in the long run. his efforts are so self conscious in a way - "look at me I'm a designer, I'm an artist". And his models get lost in the mix. His NY model pulled it off - but the dress did nothing to show her off (although it did have nice movement and flow). The only thing he's designed that was really flattering was his outfit for himself. Balanchine said "dance is a woman", and his choreography consistently supports and highlights the loveliness of the female form. I feel the same should be true of fashion. Besides, if you look at the stills on the site, Jeffrey's dress is a mess. It would be impossible to photograph to any flattering effect.

For me Uli's the sleeper, and I think she was robbed for the second time last night. Malandrino rated her's the highest as well, and apparently loved her previous dress. She also has "mad skills". Her dresses are wearable, make her models look great, even her real woman - and i love her detailing.

Hey, I'm a big fan of both Proj Runway and designsponge, but I usually don't watch P.R. on the weekends (especially this week, when I'm absorbed by tennis), and so skip over your episode reviews till after I've watched. But your headline this week was a big spoiler! Please try to keep spoiler info out of the headline....

I studied fashion design way back when and had to learn all the hand stitches required for a couture outfit and tailoring. But that was the only time I ever used them. I had a friend who worked at the embroidery studio in London where Princess Diana and Fergie's wedding dress embroidery was done. She gave me a tour once and the amount of skill and time that goes into a dress like this is really amazing. If you're into fashion and craftsmanship you want to weep when you see a couture dress in person. . For this reason I thought the challenge was sort of dumb since couture is all about incredible detail and craftsmanship It takes weeks to make a single dress and a team of people work on it so how could the designers pull it off by themselves in 2 days. Their dresses looked like the same old stuff they always do in two days. And Jeffrey's looked like an Alexander McQueen/Vivienne Westwood knockoff. I wish they'd give the designers a challenge where they have to make a suit or pants or set in a sleeve. I'm so sick of the same old sleeveless dress.

As a design student, I'm always so excited to read your blog. I ran home after dinner to get comfy for last night's PR and while I was waiting I saw the first post was about PR...big spoiler...my face must have been sagging to the floor, because my roommate asked what was wrong and if I was ok. It would be so great if the winner/loser was not included in the title of a post. If not it won't stop me from coming back to the blog...watching PR...and coming to the forum, but it'd make my face a lot droopier (is that even a word?).
Sorry, back to PR...I cannot believe they aired him saying what "gets him off"...horrible. Glad he's gone. I do think Kayne will leave next even though I really dig his personality.
Michael and ULI! YAY! Jeffrey has "mad skills"...at being an asshole!

My husband and I are THRILLED that Vincent has FINALLY been auf'd. He really doesn't understand basic design principles and has an editorial blind spot the size of Texas. Sweet man in serious denial.

Michael all the way! Also rooting for Jeffrey to make it to Fashion Week--attitude aside, he's got an interesting point of view. Uli and Laura both have wonderful sense of style and fit, and yes, they've starting to bore me too. Same necklines, silhouettes, dresses. Uli please get out of your comfort zone--I'd love to see your genius approach to patterns would translate in other types of clothing. And Kayne who I adore can't seem to help himself with the bling bling (although I did love the chiffon skirt). This season feels like a cacophony of one-notes.

Anyone else miss Tim? More Tim and less drama Bravo!

Jeffery's dress was the only one that looked even remotely like a couture dress. A yellow, COTTON plaid evening gown?! I think the others didn't really know what "couture" actually meant. It certainly doesn't mean, "simple" or using glue. Of course Malandrino would prefer Jeffery's dress overall. If you don't know her clothes, you have to seek them out. Also, it's about time they had a more interesting designer judge (in New York) like Richard Tyler. Interesting to note that both he and Jeffery have designed for the same clients.

To be fair to the other designers, most couture is not hand sewn by the designer - it's done by an amazing team crafts people.

I was so thrilled to see Vincent go this week! Finally no more talk of his "getting off". Totally disgusting.

glad to see vincent go... as much as i hate to admit it, i did like jeffrey's dress... but he is still a butthole! i am feeling a little empathy for laura... i hated to get out of bed when i was pregnant... i could not imagine being under that kind of pressure AND being pregnant!

the challenge (as most of the challenges) was ridiculous... as someone mentioned, the designers DO NOT actually do the hand work themselves, they have a talented team of artisans that really DO the work... so the challenge was insane...

i loved the bottom of kayne's dress but the top could have been different...

i am a fan of uli and michael but i still thought that jeffrey the beast should have won...

next week... the olsen sisters?

I dont know what it is about Kayne but I totally love him (not his designs...him). I was sooo happy that he didnt get the boot this last episode. And I must agree about Jeffrey's plaid dress...totally amazing. The fabrics were so abundant and drapey yet sexy and fun. Right now I'm still rooting for Uli, though...I think she's got some serious talent. And I really hope Laura goes next. Her designs are so boring and honestly, I think, quite ugly.

Who cares if Jeffrey is a "jerk" ? He designed the best piece this week, and was awarded for it. They're not judging people based on their personality. At first I really didn't like what he presented in the first few shows but I really think he's improving, and really deserved that win.

I didn't like Jeffery's at all and not just because it was him.Though I will give him some points(grudgingly) for really going bold, or audacious as Malandrino said. Loved her comment about Vincent-"no, no, no, no, no". And I didn't think Kaynes was all that bad, maybe because I love Kayne. ANd the skirt on it was amazing in the way it flowed. So glad creepy Vincent is gone. Laura does need to take a chance, as does Uli. Michael is so great. I would really like to see him win it.

I would really like this show to change it up, just once time or one season and give them a little more time. I do understand that the skilled ones can produce well in short times, but imagine what they could do with just a little bit more time!

I may be crazy but I like Kayne's dress. Even my couldn't care less BF, eating his dinner and trying to ignore me yelling at the screen, was surprised by the judge's reaction to Kayne's dress. He liked it best!

I liked Kayne's dress a lot, blingy spangle and all. I thought Jeffrey's was bold and good in some places, but I hated 1) the huge opening up the front that made the model look like Heidi-whore; 2) all the stuff hanging off of it - I wanted to tie doll heads and cans to all those straps; 3) the way the boobs were set so far apart. I love and hate the banana-yellow. And it was WAYYYY too much plaid. I was sad about Laura's - given a real chance, I bet she could pull off an amazing couture dress. And, Uli should have won. Really.

Next off...it could be anyone. Anyone could screw up or miss the mark. I'm glad Vincent is gone, finally. His dress was really....eeee...not very dress-like. And it had a fleurchon over the butt! I fear the next off may be Kayne. I really like him. I'm glitter-susceptible because I'm a bellydancer, so for me, his skill makes up for his heartland pageant taste. Not everyone can or should be a sophisticate, and that skirt was beautiful. Even my anti-glam husband loved it.

Now that Jeffery has finally shown some design sense, i think the final three will be:
Michael, Jeffery, and Uli

Now is it me or is this season lacking in Tim time... and these designers are seriously boring me to tears. We got a spark with Jeffery being a jerk one week... but he's back to being boring the next. Even Paris can't revive them. Blahhhhhh, bring back Santino!

Vincent definitely deserved to go......and Michael did dodge a bullet. He's still my favorite by far and I hope (but doubt) that he will win.

That Kayne isn't gone already is a miracle, and he should definitely be one of the next two to go.

I've never been that big a fan of Uli -- I think everything she does looks the same -- but her last dress was pretty. I'd like to see her go before Laura.

Michael will be my #1, even though I doubt he will actually win it in the end.

I thought Uli's dress was the same as every other dress she has done. We also thought Kayne's dress was flashy, but beautiful. You guys beat me to the punch re: Vincent and what "turns him on." V. creepy. His dress looked like coffin lining.

Question: does anyone speak Italian? they only showed Jeffrey's neck tattoo, but it looked like it said "l'amore de la mia vita", which I think is wrong. Shouldn't it be "della mia vita"? Ordinarily I would say, "who cares?", but a tattoo is kind of permanent...

I also spotted Laura's "Fleurchamps making in progress" sign or whatever it said. Me-ow. Besides, I thought they were "fleurchons"

Will they actually cut down to three? Fashion week is next week---Project Runway on Wednesday and the runway show is Friday 9AM EST. They'll only be down to 4 designers at that point. Will they do another elimination show after fashion week? That will mean a reunion show and the typical two week finale---and they'll be announcing the winner 4 weeks after fashion week. Last year, a few days after the runway show, pictures were up on the internet. I would have thought by season 3 they would have their timing down so that they would have the reunion show the week of fashion week and then be ready to name a winner directly thereafter...

3:22 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

hey, maybe there's a double elimination next week... they DID talk about twins or doubles or something... that way PR is sort of in timing with Fashion week. (btw, I went to the Olympus fashion week website in hopes of gleening something... but nada.)

2:13 AM

My guess for the final three are Uli, Michael and Jeffrey. I agree that Uli's dresses are all too similar, but they are all beautiful, flattering and wearable.

Although I can barely stand to look at Mr Neck, and am consistently put off by his bad attitude, Jeffrey has done some great work. And I was a big fan of the yellow plaid dress. And his NY model totally rocked it.

I, too, would love to see some more time given for the challenges. The 2-day "Couture" dress challenge was a joke. BTW, Laura's stomach seems to be growing by leaps and bounds these past few episodes... How much time do they have between each challenge anyway? I'd love to see what the designers can do with a few days.
