hell has frozen over

DSC01341

...because we finally have a couch! let's just say that the people at room and board were fibbin' when they said the legs didn't come off any their couches (i had 3 employees and the fit crew tell me that). after a third visit to their soho shop i found a lovely employee who said that in fact three couches have legs that come off. luckily one of them (the 76" andré) fit like a dream and we no longer have to live with a filthy (hello, soy sauce stains) ikea couch. and we managed to swing a tufted back to boot! i walked in the living room today and did a double take- i still can't believe we found one that fit. i still wish it had cute little tapered legs like the petrie but i'm just so happy to finally have one.

i love your hand bag. nice sofa too. i just ordered the jasper from room and board from the catalog–without seeing it or testing it in person, it will arrive in january. how is the comfort factor on the one you bought?

thanks, it's from rare device. rena always has great non-leather bags.

the couch is decently comfy but the jasper will be much more comfortable in my book. we wanted the jasper but it wouldn't fit through the door or hallway :(

I love the Andre ... more than Jasper in fact. It has a great base and the fabric is gorgeous. I can't tell you how many times I've gone into the R&B store in Soho just to sit on it. (It's conveniently located right at the front of the store.) Congrats!

Fantastic! Congratulations. Isn't that a satisfying feeling?

i still can't believe it's ours. but as a slow layer of cat hair builds up it feels more like ours. i have to use the sticky cat hair roller on it every few hours..ugh.

thanks :) i was torn on the color (for some reason i don't like bronwn) but now i'm in the fun zone of trying to find a wall color to match it.

Congratulations! As a veteran of the sofa wars myself, I was feeling your pain throughout the campaign. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

PS Sounds like you need to indulge - er, invest - in either the new KR cone handheld vac or the new Dyson handheld vac to keep up with the kitty hair. :)

Oh, no -- on to the paint wars! Lavendar sounds promising -- but finding THE lavendar is even harder than finding a sofa!

Congrats Grace!!!! Woo hoo!!! A friend of mine almost got the Andre, but also felt the same way about the legs. In the end she got the Petrie. But it is a gorgeous couch all the same! Perfect for cuddling!

I love the combo of chocolate brown and lavendar (I have that going on in my bedroom right now and so warm and cozy), so I think that would be a great choice.

Wonderful news about the sofa, Grace! It looks great!

I recently bought a new sofa in a fabric which looks similar to yours and understand what you're saying about cat hair! (The fabric is good for clawing though...!) I picked up a couple of round fake-sheepskin beds in Petsmart put them on the sofa (...when it's just us!). Our two cats seem to love them! If they want to nap on the sofa, they always pop into their beds. Fur is inevitable with cats but this does seem to help!

I'm so jealous! I'm eyeing this one myself but haven't made the 3 hour drive to Chicago to test it out. How comfy is it? I'm always afraid that the comfort won't stand up to the looks.

well, i'm coming from a seriously AWFUL ikea couch so this seems worlds better. the cushions are super soft and pillowy, a bit stiffer, but i'm coming from literally the worst couch in the world so it's awesome. the petrie was definitely softer but it just didn't fit.

i'd suggest sitting in it before you buy...

It would be *very* very hard for me to spend $1500 (not including tax or delivery) for a sofa in a color I didn't absolutely adore. I hope you are able to find a way to make it work!

I love the sofa and also was thinking you could probably hire someone to change the legs for you. In addition, as a designer, $1500 is a very reasonable price to pay for a sofa! way to go; good find.

I don't think Becca (above) was saying that $1500 was a lot for a couch. I think she was just saying that any sofa is a big purchase and you should get the color you want.
As for legs, it seems I saw tapered wood legs on ebay when I was looking a while back. I like the sled legs though - they have a 40's feel.

I'm torn between the Andre and the Eugene. I haven't seen either in person, we're not lucky enough to have a R&B. Can two people lounge on it comfortably?

ac and i can both lay down on the andre (76") but we have to sort of cross our legs over each other. it's not particularly deep- a bad thing in my book but a necessity bc of our narrow door.

I know this is off-topic, but I love your cup cozy on the couch! Where did you get it? Is it knitted or crocheted? The couch is a beauty too!

I almost went with this sofa from R+B, but went with the Porter at the last minute. Love their sofas- so elegant.

Sounds like I need to get to Rare Device, since I am obsessed with that keyholder you posted, as well as this purse.

Love it! We're between Andre and I think Burke. I think we need to go with a khaki color tho, so I'm dreading the wait. Glad to hear you can somewhat lay down on it together. While we're in transition, we just using a small leather loveseat. Having to take turns stretching out is not fun!

I like to think those R&B folks know everything about the furniture they sell, but have found that many of them don't quite and a couple choice individuals know every detail. I too have a Room & Board sofa that was delivered sans legs. They were installed by the delivery folk. Kudos on your new seating. I used the same fabric on a different sofa for a client and it turned out beautifully!

You already got your sofa and liking it.... but have you checked out DWR's Bantam Sofa? I have the armchair version of it (in sage.. beautiful!) and the tapered legs come off. The price isn't too bad, either.
