carrie curtains
my internet is on the fritz today so my apologies if posts get jammed up or things go dark for a while. after many weeks of blood, sweat and tears my stupid carrie curtains are finally up. it required: brick nails, a special brick bit, three different types of anchors and a whole lot of repositioning. apparently our walls are made of paper in some spots (well, not paper but something like a thick cardboard) and then brick/cement in others. these walls were not meant to hold curtains but i was determined to get them up if it was the last thing i did. so with some help from the staff at tarzian downstairs my marimekko curtains are now up. and ac was even nice enough not to complain about the pink.

Gorgeous design, and looks splendid in your space!
Hard work pays off... Congrats!
"Stupid carrie curtains" made me laugh. I have had a place with walls like that. At first it's Oooh, a brick wall! Then it's That !$@$&^* brick wall. So I feel your pain. If it's any consolation, they look gorgeous.
they look great!
i really like this photo of your house! those curtains are AWESOME! that really bites that you had to spend so much time on them, but now they are up and look great. i really like your little collection you have going on the side table too.
God, Grace. Those are gorgeous. I love these so much.
grace, the curtains look so great!! -joy
thansk guys :)
i got a few emails about this so i thought i'd post the details below:
on the wall: the top illustration is by kate sutton at sleep cow, the bottom one is a custom piece by lindsey adelman.
the lamp came from living on 7th in park slope, the little jug is vintage from modhaus, the little bowls are karin eriksson's from the d*s shop and the piggy is from sparkability.net.
d*s :)
your carrie curtains look lovely!
and i have to say, your design blog has become my fave. :)
i love these. when i click on the marimekko link, though, a different colorway (pink/green) comes up. yours looks like it's only pink-red...where did you find it?
that's actually the same colorway. the "green" is actually a greenish brown color in person

Looks like it was worth the blood, sweat, toil and tears. pity about the paper walls, but at least you can say you live inside an origami!
I love all the items on your dresser-top. That little mirror is so great, can you share where you got it? Oh, and, the curtains are nice too!

thanks, i've had the mirror since college so im pretty sure it came from somewhere college-y like bed bath and beyond. ;)

re: the color - good to know! thanks so much. and congrats on your beautiful curtains and home! one more question: what yardage did you need to make one curtain?
i love them~
Love the Carrie curtains. Looks great! Congratulations on finally getting them up!
i went through the exact same brick problem with my walls. the guy at the hardware store took pity after my fourth trip back there and came over to help. it was worth the work though - i love your curtains!
Looks great, Grace!
oh so great to see them in place! i can only imagine the work! they look lovely
I can see you sitting in front of that window, with your laptop, typing: "I couldn't help but wonder, are these curtains framing my view of the world, or the world's view of me?"
I love these! Unfortunately, my boyfriend has already vetoed them for our new apartment, but I'm pushing for a "headboard" like the one featured in the small apartments article of the new "Blueprint"!
"Carrie curtains"! lol
I actually thought about how much I liked her curtains *every* time I watched that show. Thanks for finding them and sharing! :)
