new designer: OM home

12 (1)

d*s reader sanjeev sent me an email about his wife's wonderful new textile design studio. based in montreal, OM home is the work of designer oorbee roy. roy uses her designs to highlight age old textile techniques of india. her colorful pillows and table linens recall traditional indian designs while blending them with a more contemporary look. roy explains, "during religious and festive occasions, women in the coastal parts of india decorate the steps, floors and seats of honor with floral designs using simple ingredients like rice powder emulsion, vegetable dye and a strip of cloth formed in a wick." the technique, known as alpona, has survived almost unchanged for generations and now roy uses it to add a whimsical touch to her pillows and textiles. working closely with a fair trade artisan group in india, roy is now launching a debut collection of table linens and pillows that combine their expert embroidery with her contemporary patterns. the result is stunning. roy will start shipping her debut collection in late september, so click here to email for rates and shipping information. [thanks, sanjeev. and happy anniversary!]

[this week's highlights: lena corwin's guest blog, angela adams podcast, the brooklyn design guide, a fresh mini-trend and new finds at d*s on hg]

I love those salmon ones with the pattern on one side! I also have a teak bed-frame and white sheets and was looking to splash in some colour. I never thought of doing it this way. Heh heh, I'm gonna replicate that photo!
