hand-lettering

betsy dunlap's work was a big hit the other week so i was thrilled to get an email from diane about two more talented calligraphers. decorative writing can add such a nice touch to invitations, artwork and practically anything else you can think of. both crystal kluge (who's work is above) and nancy howell do such lovely work- i hope you'll enjoy it. i mentioned this last time, but you can always comission these artists to do something other than invitations. i hired betsy to write out my favorite poem, carl sandburg's "fog". i'll be sure to share the results when it's done. [thanks, diane!]

there is a teeny tiny country whose leather-covered ID cards are all handprinted. i couldn't believe it when i got one... maybe these ladies could apply for the job when the little old man who does them leaves his position...!!!

I'm sure that you've heard of Maybelle Imasa-Stukul, but if not, you should check out her beautiful calligraphy here.

betsy provides rates by the hour i believe, or by the page. but i'm paying her around $25 for the poem. she may have given me a slight discount, i'm not sure- but it is a pretty short poem, too.

Thanks so much for posting all of the incredibly lovely handwriting. I would be interested in knowing whether any of these artists took formal calligraphy classes, drawing, etc. or if they just did lots of experimenting, practice, and sketching to get some established styles going?
So beautiful!
