diy heaven

i love budget living magazine. it's a great magazine for people like me who are a veritable radar for high-end goods, but happen live on a low-end budget. this month's issue is home to tons of wonderful diy projects- mainly a GORGEOUS silver spoon mirror designed by flaunt magazine's jocelyn meintser. i absolutely love it. so, this has become my new project for the month. i'm going to have to track down some cheap, cool silver spoons (any ideas, ny-ers?) and a mirror, but i think it's worth the effort. too. cool. check out budget living's website for more info. (or just pick up the feb/march issue, it's worth the $3.99)

I'm in Chicago, so I can't point you to specific spots, but you should be good at any thrift store that carries a decent selection of homegoods.
When I lived in Boston and was in my shabby-chic phase, I got tons of old cut-glass serving pieces at a thrift store for under 20 bucks (we're talking punch bowl with a half-dozen matching cups and 5 serving plates of different sizes)
Good luck!
This is maybe too obvious, but the flea markets in Chelsea always have beautiful old spoons. And in the downstairs garage market, there's a man who takes up three or four stalls who deals mainly in silver. I don't know about his prices AT ALL but he seems to have hundreds, thousands of spoons, so they can't be too expensive.
I absolutely love budget living! it's one of the few magazines i read at least twice cover to cover. the spoon mirror is cool...maybe ebay for a big spoon lot?
Flipping through the new issue a few weeks back, I noticed a blurb about one of Kmart's upcoming "high-design" furniture pieces. Some time ago i remember hearing somthing about their push into the budget design catagory. Anybody have anything to share (and YOU, with a copy of said magazine, what was the gist of that entry abiut said finnish drawer-chest knockoff)
Thanks Grace! I have to go get myself a copy. As for the spoons, I bought some real cheap and nice ones at Target and Ikea.
