programma 8

1

i'm a sucker for compartmentalization. these new serving dishes (available at unica online) are so cool. they're way too expensive for me, but i'm now on the hunt for an affordable version. maybe someone out there has suggestions? i love the idea, but not the price. unica describes the pieces like this:

3

"the seventies: franco sargiani and eija helander designed "programma 8" for alessi. this systematic and comprehensive project of small modular and stackable household items was based on the very same methodological premise of the "international-style" architecture of the period: the theory of open-system meta-design ideal for the free composition of unlimited living and formal models." i don't know about all that, but i know i like the way it looks. now to find a version i can afford...

Here's some more crate and barrel links, this time for melamine products that are probably more attuned to the modular concept. I'm not wild about that terra cotta color scheme on the first link but c&b seems to rotate palettes every couple of weeks. The manufacturer is zak designs. They seem to have a half dozen or so websites, each with only a small portion of their range and no apparent link to the others. The best so far seems to be the UK site because they have the most products and if you click on print this page, it opens up a PDF of all the products in a given range.

oops, forgot to include the links! BTW, you can't really tell from either the c&b or zak sites, but these components work very well together. 4 of the small square blue trays fit pefectly into the large white one and the green and white condiment tray fits perfectly inside the red gallery tray. (I have the white.) I own most of these and like them a lot.
