heaven- in cupcake form *

cupcakes

i have just eaten the world's greatest cupcake. i'm sure everyone will have their own opinion on what their personal best is, but after walking past blue apron this afternoon on my coffee break, i noticed NEW cupcakes in the window, cupcakes that definitely weren't blue apron's variety (although those are good, too). i was instantly drawn to the store and plunked down my $2 for what has to be the best thing ever to come out of an oven.

redhot

after asking who made these, i found out it was red hook's finest bakery, baked. after finding their site i realized they have garnered quite their share of press- and it's well deserved. after inhaling a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese icing (with a hint of cinnamon and a red hot on top) i realized i'd found a new favorite cupcake maker. i highly suggest that you check them out if you're in the nyc area. they're painfully delicious. [if you like cupcakes, you should definitely check out not martha- she's the cupcake queen]

Wonderful to hear the review! I just sent my friend a b'day gift certificate to Baked and now I know she will enjoy it! Sadly enough I am not from the the NYC therefore I will have to live vicariously through her.

I've found Baked's stuff to be hit or miss--some days the cupcakes are spot on, some days it seems they've been in the freezer a little too long, or the icing is overloaded with sugar. Still, they'll do in a pinch!
But as a fellow cupcake lover, I can't recommend Sugar Sweet Sunshine (Rivington betw. Essex and Norfolk) enough--their red velvet cupcakes are made of magic! And it's conveniently located right off the F at Delancey. Making it the perfect place for this Brooklynite's post-work sugar fix ; )

I've never had a bad experience at baked. delicious goodness each and every time. best bakery bar none. those magnolia clones should be trembling in their sugar frosted booties.
