hi grace... doormats are actually getting to be quit big here in germany at the moment. walking thru the ambiente fair in frankfurt, there were so many more booths with amazing doormats than there were at the at the ambiente fair last year.
either those from the hotel mama collections, or endless companies making "copies"... but my favourites have to be from a small shop in hamburg called "dreckstueck"... basically meaning "piece of dirt". sweet is, that this is not what a german actually says to a piece of dirt, rather to people. so the guy has a lovely play of word on his company name.
he has a great selection on the website, primarily in german, however he does customize doormats as well. so say, you wanted a doormat with design*sponge on it... voila.
the website is www.dreckstueckchen.de and there's an english article about the company here

this mats are really cute but could be a bit messy with wear.
they have similar rugs, if not the same ones at Target for $19.
