project...what?

1139682657_F5izKh

im a little stunned about last night's project runway results. the pattern maker won! most of you know my money was on santino (and he's still my fav), but i'm just glad daniel v. didn't win. talk about not fitting, ugh. oh well, i still think santino will be a successful designer in la- his clothes are perfect for that crowd. congrats to chloe- she was so cute when she won. what do YOU guys think about the results? did the right designer win?

absolutely! my hubby + i totally agree. we were rooting for santino. if anything his style is perfect for the runway. hence project runway. i felt chloe's style are great for a boutique shop but the difference between the two well....there's no comparison. i love the dress in santino's collection. did you have a favorite?

I'm going to try to not be rude. Chloe's stuff was a BIT shiny and pouffy. I liked the dress her last girl wore (the teal dress that the winning model wore.) but other than that, I really kinda hated everything she did. I can't get that GIANT pink shiny puff sleeve dress out of my mind. I had nightmares last night! I sort of enjoyed her 13th look... except the little teeny boobie panels on it. That just looked weird.

Daniel's stuff was nice. Nicely tailored, constructed pieces. I'm with Tim on those bags... looks like his dad made them in his workshop. "Thanks, Dad!"

Ahh.. Santino! I LOOOVE Santino. (I really appreciated hearing his story last week.) His stuff was gorgeous!! So pretty and feminine. How annoying that the judges were knocking him for being safe.... They've been all over him all season about toning it down! Geesh! He was robbed, but' you're right d*s, he'll do JUST FINE!

I went to Bravotv.com to try to watch Kara's video.. but it won't work on my Mac. Hmpf! What was that all about?

I love Chloe's collection. Everything that came onto the runway got and "I would buy that" response from me. It was cohesive and gorgeous so I'm glad she won!

I thought Santino was going to win from show number 1 so I was stunned when he was "eliminated" first of the three remaining designers last night. But when they said Chloe had won, my friends and I were just shocked!

Strangely though, neither of my favorite pieces of the evening were Santinos... I really liked Daniel's coat, and Chloe's brown dress.

Santino will be successful with or without the win.

I agree that Santino should have won, but I think that they wanted Chloe to hit the ground running with her business acumen (in contrast with Jay McCarroll).

For my money Daniel V was far more sophisticated than Chloe (although some of her designs were really good). Santino does not impress me at all. Fancy rags do not make fashion, nor do overly boastful designers.

You expressed my feelings exactly! I too am glad that Daniel V did not win. He is not worthy of the title. I was rooting for Satino and feel in love with his collection but Chloe was my second fav. From the beginning she stood out as a strong designer.

I clapped when Daniel's model tripped. You could tell that he thought he had it in the bag! If I ran into him on the street I would have a giant urge to say "In your face" to him and then politely walk away.

can someone please explain to me why kara got a fashion week show even though she was eliminated on television? i've looked everywhere for that answer... her runway show looks the best to me. you can see photos on her website.

I think Santino has the best vision out of all of them, but I agreed with the judges, his collection seemed all over the place. While Chloe's was safer it was had a theme running throughout it.

Check out the Project Runway website for Kara's runway show. I think we have a winner.

Chloe's collection looked like what Cindy Lauper fans would have worn to prom in the 80's. Personally I don't know any women that would want to walk around in balloons.
I too was hoping Santino would win. His collection was beautiful, and very unexpected. I just thought that it was too bad that the judges criticized him for being too ornate, and then when he tones it down they criticize him for being "safe." I almost believe they only put him in the top three because they were sure the collection would be hideous and would bring a little more drama to the line-up.
As for Daniel V., I like him! He's young, and his work reflects that.. but bis designs have a very simple elegance which is most like what I would actually wear.

my favorite was santino. he oozes creative passion. daniel just got so like "i'm gonna take this, it's in the bag" toward the end. and those bags? eesh...

kara had a show because the fashion week shows take place before her "cut" episode aired, so they knew they had to give her a mock show so no one would run out and say "the final three are...". they did that last year, too. her show was really nice, albeit a little knit-crazy for me.

i don't wish daniel v any ill will but im so glad he didn't win. did anyone notice how his dress fit rebecca and zulema's model? their boobs were all over the place. talk about a bad fit. i thought HIS collection was all over the place.

i loved santino's- with the exception of the leather top, gross- i would wear most of those in a heartbeat. esp that first number- so gorgeous.

daniel's model's trip reminded me of kors last year saying "you cant send a model out in a dress she can't walk in- thats the designer's mistake, not the model's"

i'll miss kors and his silly sayings. "it looks like she's been staying inside and eating ho hos all day!"

xoxo, project runway forever.
(ps: i think santino's clothes would sell like hotcakes. can't you see them on hilton type girls on the red carpet? it's so la)

Wow. Totally disagree! I have disliked Santino from the beginning and was very happy that he did not win. I think the way he treated the other designers all season was inexcusable, and the judges were right in saying that the fit was not there in his pieces. I did love his signature piece from the 13, but was underwhelmed by many others, including the 13th piece. I thought Chloe totally deserved to win because of the extremely finished nature of her designs... creative, nicely made, excellent fit, a true professional. Daniel V. was my favorite during the season, because even if he did get a little cocky near the end, do you remember when he kissed Kara on the cheek when she was crying? Do you remember when he talked Nick out of his funk? He is kind and very very talented-- a winning combination.

i liked them all in different ways....but i was surprised that chloe won. i liked santino's collection the best, but i did see what they were saying about lack of consistency. i did think his dresses were beautiful and he will be really successful..all three of them will...no matter what.

what I liked about dan was that you could always tell he was thinking, processing and internalizing...
he seemed sensitive and thoughful and had creative reasons behind his choices.

chloe always seemed to be following a pre-described guidline, and santino always seemed to be more about the impact than anything else. He was very formulaic and calculating.

all in all I think they were all good designers, just very different flavors.

did anyone else think santino looked (and acted) like karim rashid?

If anyone's clothes didn't fit it was Santino, the judges even said that! Everything he made was rather boring in comparison to what he had done before. Santino should have been eliminated a LONG time ago so I was glad to see him go first. I thought Daniel would win, but I loved the brown dress that Chloe made so I'm not disappointed.

I loved some pieces from Santino's and Daniel's collections but all in all, if you look at them as a collection, Santino used different fabrics and theme for each one--not what a runway collection is supposed to do. And Daniel's show was...a bit underwhelming.

I voted for Chloe after seeing the spoiler photos, since, as a collection, hers was the most cohesive and say what you will, but her stuff is immaculately tailored and quite flattering. And whether or not it's your cup of tea (some of it I can't imagine wearing), her collection presented a distinctly "Chloe" voice--the cuts, the placement of the seams, etc. As a whole, neither Daniel's nor Santino's felt distinctly 'them.'

Truth be told, I would buy Santino's pieces over the other two, but that's not how a collection is judged--it needs to be evaluated as a whole.

And dang it, Santino's pieces looked ill fitting (on a size 0 model, no less!).

**To the anonymous that asked--Kara got to show at Olympus (same as Austin did last year) since the fashion show is taped while they are still airing the last of the few shows.

i was disappointed in santino. unfortunately for him, nina garcia beat him into submission (i can not stand her)! His designs were safe and not santino-like. but he did show that he could make something other than shredded garments. i was glad to see chloe win. not sure what the patternmaker comments are about but it should not be considered a knock against her. her designs were beautiful and her collection was cohesive. she definitely deserved to win.

I can NOT believe that people actually like that nasty, cheap-looking, pink bridesmaid/prom 80's nightmare!! Would you seriously wear that???

I was surprised at the outcome too, because I read articles before the finale from reporters who went to the show and most were saying that Santino's collection was the best. And when they were all showing Tim their collection when they got to NY, I loved Santino's, especially the ocean blue dress with the leather trim. But I think the judges totally got it right, none of his dresses fit. Fit is so important for a designer. You can be the most creative designer out there, but if you can't execute on structure, who's going to be able to wear it? As I was watching the models go down the runway, I was mortified at how all their boobs were floppin' around. For God's sakes, get some tape or somethin'. Santino is a very creative designer, but his clothes serve a certain niche— along the lines of a Lilly Pulitzer or maybe Juicy Couture look, that LA, socialite/celebrity look. I really like that look, it’s fresh and very California. But I don’t really see him becoming an American designer staple like a Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren.

I was really underwhelmed by all the designs to be honest. Daniel's was probably my favorite of all because they seemed like classic pieces, especially the coat and his tops. I think of all the designers, he has that certain view that would catapult him into the category of a Marc Jacobs or Narcisso Rodriguez. I really loved all of Chloe's designs from all the episodes. However, her final collection was not my favorite, as I don't like a lot of satins in bright colors. But you could see how impeccably made everything was and the collection had a certain theme running through it. Perhaps it was b/c it was all evening wear. Daniel and Chloe were my favorite designers overall, but I'm really glad Chloe won. Of all the designs she came up with, not just the final collection, you can really see that it fit a woman's body. Even though most of her designs were simple, they had that certain stamp about it that said Chloe. Go Chloe!!!

Thank goodness Chloe WON!!! I've since cancelled cable and this is one of the show's I've been missing. But I remember seeing Chloe's designs and thinking finally - someone who knows how to design something that most women will wear. I don't really need something that screams LOOK AT ME! She's awesome. So happy for her.

All of Santino's clothes had a theme, he actually repeated fabrics throughout and had a consistant color story.

i agree with what a few people were saying about kara...i actually thought that out of the four, hers was the most impressive. hers was the only one i saw and thought, "wow, i didn't know she had that in her."

on another note, i think it's rather sad that chloe won and not santino (although, like a few others, i'm glad daniel v. didn't win...he was getting a bit cocky, kinda like kara saun last year). to me, it comes down to a viewpoint--chloe views herself first and foremost as a businesswoman and santino views himself first and foremost as an artist. the artist should always win, fashion should be about creativity and innovation. chloe was never very creative or innovative...she was so boring, so ho-hum. even her attempt at breaking out that (final collection) was little more than a vintage baleciaga knockoff. i think it's sad that the judges picked business over art.

From Tim’s blog

So, fast forward to Fashion Week. Santino's collection is, in a word, magnificent. I could easily see it at Bergdorf Goodman or Saks Fifth Avenue. Was it the winning collection? Gasp, I hoped not. Huh? Why? Because, were Santino Rice to be declared the winner of Project Runway, then the season three auditions would be subtitled, "Project Freak Show." Step right up ladies and gentlemen. In this tent we have Jay McCarroll and over here we have Santino Rice. I love and respect Santino, but please don't let him win!

Chloe was the least of the three evils. The best of the three collections couldn't even hold a candle to the worst of the three collections in season one. Those were amazing runways shows, and these, by comparison, were just underwhelming. Santino's collection was ill-fitting and didn't reflect the flair he showed during the season. That said, I think he should have been eliminated a long time ago and Nick should have gone to the final 3. When Santino's dress fell apart on the runway during that episode, and some of that dress was glue-gunned together, that should have been a cause for elimination.

I'm suprised that Chloe won, I wasn't a big fan of her collection, very 80's prom to me with the big fuschia shrugs. I did like all her designs from the other shows though. As much as I love to hate Santino for his attitude, I was rooting for him. Daniel V.'s collection was great, some good, wearable pieces there, but with a little more experience, he will make in in the business.

I actually went to a prom or several in the 80's which I doubt is actually the case with most of the commenators here...
I can assure you that we did not have such beautiful gowns as Chloe's...
Whether or not you LIKE satin and pink is beside the point in a critique.
Chloe's clothes actually fit... They looked good on the models... and, she didn't need to resort to the bells and whistles of trim as did Santiago.
And... she wasn't an ass. I'm sick to death of the cult of personality. Who cares if you are the loudest, brashest a&*hole of the lot. Talent and craft should and hopefully in the long run does count for much much more...

I agree with the above comment. Chloe's designs may have been simple, but they're classic and wearable. It's all about fit people! If it doesn't fit, don't...whatever. Has anyone here actually seen Santino's runway collection on the Bravo gallery? Please take another look. I implore you. Because then someone can try to explain how he tried to fit a dress on a model with no boobs? I don't think so.

Couture is for a certain moneyed client. Period. None of these desigers is haute couture. They are designing for upper-middle class Americans who want clothes that fit. In other wods, social x-rays. Santino cannot do that. I actualy believe he despises women or is very uncomfortable with them since not a single one of his designs actually fit. In a body-conscious city like LA he will (and, for that matter, has) have a hard time. I'm glad Chloe won, although Daniel was my favorite. Chloe needs to use different fabrics; the silk charmeuse was overdone. But given the financial constraints I think she did an excellent job. Her seaming was impecable and interesting.

For the person that asked why Kara was able to show, it was bec ause when they were planning teh fashion week show the results were not in yet on who had been eliminated. There were still 4 people at the time. They did not want to give away to much to the press, in the event of a leak. So they all showed.

"daniel's model's trip reminded me of kors last year saying "you cant send a model out in a dress she can't walk in- thats the designer's mistake, not the model's""

What's funny is that the dress that Jennifer Garner was wearing when she tripped and nearly fell during this year's Oscars was designed by Kors. Ha.

Santino will be more successful than any of them.

When it comes to Santino, it was true justice that he lost...because if he won, he would have been rewarded for the apalling behavior he displayed throughout the entire show. I don't care if he was almost homeless--because as far as I can tell, airing that portion of the interview was a strategic move to manipulate the audience into feeling sorry for him.

The difference between having a great, positive attitude and a nasty, arrogant one made all the difference for me, as to who I was rooting for. I thought Chloe deserved to win because--not only were her clothes solidly constructed and beautifully tailored (although I agree with the general consensus that the red poofy sleeved thing was not the greatest)--she never lowered herself to devious mind games or arrogant condescension. She always stayed sweet, kept going, and stayed on it...even when she wasn't feeling up to the challenge. She never tried to "take anyone down." I have a lot of respect for her and I wish her all the best!

Chloe deserved to win. She is professional, can fit clothes properly and has an enormous amount of creativity to her lines and seams.
2.
Daniel is a very good recent graduate. He needs training under a pro. He does have exquisite taste. A perfect "New Hire"
3.
Santino is funny and has lots of ideas. He just needs more experience.

i knew Chloe would win. remember, this is a reality tv show and all you have to do is follow the drama.
i stated it two episodes agon when i knew she would be in the final three. why?
she took a drubbing from every other designer stating that she shouldn't be there and her designs were the most middle of the road. i don't think there was any surprise that Chloe won.
..but i know EVERYTHING!

i knew nothing watching my predictions fall aprt for the Oscars, but now i'm back to knowing everything again :)

I saw Daniel V. (and other contestants--a friend got me in) at the Project Runway launch party, and despite what people are saying about Daniel V being cocky, he seemed extremely well-liked by the other contestants. So did Nick. I think we have to remember that they edit for drama. Of course, Santino probably didn't need much editing to come off as dramatic!

At first I wasn't crazy about Santino-- but he grew on me and his designs showed by *far* the most creativity! I think he should have been the winner, but I'm wondering if, after last year with Jay not taking the prize money or the BR mentorship perhaps the judges were looking for someone a bit more willing to be part of the business world, not just the fashion world. Chloe certainly showed she can be successful in both.

Kara's collection (though a bit hat crazy) also looked fantastic. Kudos to all, but I do hope Santino breaks out on his own!

Well I just found out who won...since I missed the last episode. I have to say that yes I was suprised that Chloe won, but when you look at all the collections for the runway, Chloe's was the best.
Daniel was impressive during the show, but something was missing from his runway collection.
Santino's clothes never wowed me during the show, I guess I just never felt it.
Overall the show was a hoot, loved it and will watch it again of course if its back up next season.
