canadian d*s reader genevieve needs some help with a fabulous silver frame resouce. besides the mainstream options, does anyone have a favorite silver resource? genevieve thanks you in advance!
Where in Canada? In Toronto, we have recently had a few things framed at The Rebecca Gallery (Harbord at Grace, just w of Bathurst) - I dont recall silver specifically, but lovely frames and Kerrie the proprietor has an excellent eye.
hi genevieve - not sure what style / cost you're looking for. some ideas:
- $$$$$ many art galleries provide framing services, and usuallly (not always) carry non-mainstream frames
- you can DIY by purchasing unfinished moulding (in Vancouver, Obal Moulding has great selection). silver leafing the frameis pretty straighforward, but cut/join can be trickier depending on the moulding profile -- the cut/join is something any framing store can do for you
- you can have (almost) any used/vintage/antique frame cut down to the size you need - then you can refinish with silver leaf / paint and purchase any other components you may need or don't want to DIY (glass, backing, mats, canvas liners, assembly with the artwork, etc).
my favorite is re-doing old frames -- it's a fun quest, and you end up with something unique.
