d*s reader robyn is on a serious space saving table hunt. have any ideas? here are the details:

"Hi! I frequently visit your site and love your design ideas. (great site!) I'm trying to design and decorate a studio apartment and I was wondering if you know any stores that sell cool wall mounted tables. You know, the kind that folds out to save space. Most I've seen are pretty ugly, but I would love to find a clever design with a modern feel. I would greatly appreciate any direction!"
i know we can find something great, any ideas guys?

It should come as no surprise coming from me but my reccomendation would be to make one of your own!!

Home Depot has the hardware (cabinet hinges, piano hinges...) and wood (oak veneer plywood, joined maple counter tops, lmainated particle board, even plexiglass!) and all the other stuff (stains, paints, aluminun strips for trimming...)you might need.

They can cut the materials for you if you are without tools... though if you have 'em and are crafty you could really go wild!

My guess is that it could be accomplished for cheaper than buying one and the best part of it is that you get to flex your design muscle and create something custom to your place and taste!

two ideas to throw in:

- hide the wall mounted table behind a stretched canvas (sans frame). the lightweight canvas can be mounted on the wall with a hinge (along the top). you can swing it up to get at the table. you can decorate the canvas however it suits, and re-do whenever the mood strikes. note that this type of table will need to fold *up* for this to work).

- those coffee tables that lift up to table height are a really nice idea -- a friend of mine has one on their boat and it is great -- coffee table height most of the time, then they pop it up whenever company comes for eats. i've seen some really gorgeous ones for $800-1500, but ikea also carries a budget-conscious one.

Ikea has wall mounted tables.
You can order online if you don't have a local IKEA store in your area

thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate. If we have time we'll certainly make one, which would be fun.

great ideas!

Where did you find the one in the picture? I saw that one recently and I can't remember what magazine it was in.

thanks!

The table in the photo is from Ikea, IKEA PS ENKOPING, it comes with 4 interchangeable scenes. They also offer 2 others: INGO and NORBO which are plainer (no scene) and cheaper. Good Luck!

I tried to purchase the pictured ikea table and found out it cannot be ordered online. I do not live anywhere near an ikea and they won't take a phone order. I found one of the other ikea tables (norbo, i think) on ebay. Any ideas where I can find the one pictured other than ikea? Thanks!
