project runway: ehh?

pr

ok, so let the project runway debates and comments begin! my gut reaction is: this season makes me sad. i feel like the whole season is sort of uninspired. but for me hope lies in alison, bradley (who i love) and michael. and is it just me or do we not hear anything or see anything from michael? they didnt even show his model walk all the way off the runway. it seems odd, i love his work and i don't think it gets the air time it deserves. i'm just really let down. i think the influence of the producers feels way too transparent, the designers seem uninspired and the judges just feel a little off. i've been shocked to see what vera wang thinks- i just don't see what she sees. tim gunn seems to be on a different page than the judges and to me that's a sign something's wrong. either way, i'll keep watching and hoping that we find the new helmut lang in bradley and the new jill stuart in allison. i just don't feel any spark with this cast and think the judges panel is off. i miss michael kors. i'd take his "look at this, i wrote down that it looked 'farty'!" over vera wang's random hairdo comments any day. but i do like that they questioned angela's taste level. she drives me nuts. ok, it's open (until i go to sleep) so have at it, what do you guys think? of and of course, are we all in agreement that jerkface (keith) goes home next week for being a copycat?

Oh sweet this is up already! I agree about the judges, but not about the contestants necessarily. I love Alison and think she's got that Brooklyn look, but I'm not loving Michael. But it does seem like he's not getting air time. Maybe he's just not catty enough?

I'll refrain from mentioning the rumors of who's kicked out. But yeah, I was thinking "Did I miss it, or did they not show Michael's stuff?" If it's not the person in the rumors, then maybe it has something to do with Michael and they edited it out?
I think the season is fine. Tim seems off, though. Or maybe it was just that Santino just really made us enjoy Tim more.

Hey there. Nice posting. I tried live posting tonight and almost sprained something.
I agree with you about Michael. I think they're intentionally underplaying him. I think his designs have been solid (from the very first brilliant coffee filter dress) to tonights number and matching dog outfit.
I hope we see more of him. I was a bit worried at the beginning of tonight's show that they were priming him to be voted off -- the way they interview someone a bit too much to set him/her up for expulsion. Turns out it was Katherine. Anyway, thanks for the blogging. Keep watching and blogging!

I know-I love love love Michael and was thinking the same thing when watching the episode-they never show him or highlight him-even when Tim walked around the room to address each designer-he is not shown there either, and his dress was amazing! Also-is it just me or are Heidi's clothes way less inspired then the previous seasons?

I don't get what people see in Uli. I think her stuff is sorta tacky. I didn't understand at ALL why Vera Wang liked her gown the other night. She said it was the most "modern"??

I agree on the Uli front. I just don't think her work is my taste. But I think she seems like a fun person.

I just don't understand the Michael thing. I think he's fantastic and his work deserves MUCH more air time than it's getting. What gives, Bravo??

Can we have Michael Kors back, please?? I don't like Vera Wang. Ivanka Trump seemed out of place last night, too. Odd.

More Tim Gunn- maybe Jay could come back and judge? Or maybe just someone a bit more interesting than Ms. Wang?

she does! did anyone see her behind the scenes special on her? can't remember what it was called or what channel it was on but she seemed totally nutty. she's a classic control issue person and has her own makeup room and hair room where someone comes and does her makeup and hair every morning. crazy.

her work is beautiful but i just don't think she's interesting. she's the katie lee joel of project runway. well, not really but i just love referencing the robot host.

I think the judges were a little off too. I was surprised by the praise Bradley received considering his top had been constructed one hour before. It was poorly constructed, and they usually catch badly cut seems.

I think the beginning of the season, a lot of people don't get air time. Did you know there's a contestant named Bonnie? Yeah. Who's she?

I also miss interesting characters like Santino, Daniel, Nick, ANDRE, Zulema. Sigh. I agree with what Laura said last night, "Michael's my man." Just watch Uli win.

from tim's blog

"Michael created one of the more innovative looks on the runway. His tan tweed dress with a criss-cross halter and two kick pleats in the skirt’s front was stunning. What I loved most about his innovation was the fact that this was still real clothing and not even remotely contrived or a joke. His corresponding outfit for Carly made the adorable pooch even more adorable. His design was another strong candidate for the win."

so why didn't they ever talk to him? i'm rewatching and they talked to him once in the beginning. if he was a contender why don't we see more of him.

and vincent is a nut. i don't get why he's there. oh, wait- tv. ugh, damn you producers!

Cara,

I wouldn't go so far as to say you're out of your mind, but I don't think the show is rigged. Some people are definitely kept in longer bc of producers, but I think the winner is def chosen by talent. I mean look at Chloe? She was by far not the most interesting personality last season.

Clearly the man is keeping Michael down because that dress was awesome.

Like others have said, maybe he is just too easy going? Even so, hebetter start getting more love soon, because if I have to see freaky-ass Angela anymore I will scream.

I totally agree that Michael is fantastic and not getting his due. I thought he or Allison would win last night for sure! Uli's dress was pretty, but has anyone else noticed she's basically done the same dress each challenge? Just the fabrics and trim have been different.

Michael's dress was genius!!! And it fit his model *so* well. I can't believe they sent home that cute little green number and kept Vincent's boring and lame black sheath + leggings, and Angela's hideous whatever-that-was. Beyond them and Bradley's disastrous top, I think all the other outfits were really, really great. I think these designers are great, and once we weed out some more we'll be able to see their personalities better. I think they are passing over Michael b/c he's not crazy enough, how sad.

Before seeing Tim's comment on Michael's dress, I had come here to post that Michael's dress was hands down the best design of the evening. It's bad enough that he didn't win, but he wasn't even among the top three. Huh?
I do like Alison and Bradley, although I didn't love their designs like I loved Michael's. To me, Laura's dress wasn't different enough from her coat two weeks ago. Bonnie's outfit was so-so, but the black bone on her dog outfit - darling!
I was really hoping that Angela was going home, what a nasty personality. If Katherine had made the shrug she mentioned to match her dog's hoodie, she might have beat out Angela and hung in there another week or two.
I think the real star of the night though was Vincent's dog - Lil'A. She tried so hard to get that little hat off of her head when walking down the runway. Since they didn't show enough of Michael's dress, I must say that Lil'A stole the show.

Ok I had to say the same thing about Micheal...what's up with that? He has an incredible sense of form and fit in his garments from one show to the next. They never even show him working, is it because he's not a drama queen. I'm annoyed Vincent is still there because each episode his taste proves archaic but I'll see Angela off anyday. Rosettes on a fluffy skirt...gimme a break!

Overall season?...yawn. I'll just nap until Michael comes out with his own collection, hopefully he'll have his moment to shine soon.

So now I hear the rumor is that Michael is a cheater, and not Keith who I thought it was. That would make sense as to why Michael is not highlighted much.

hope it's okay if i chime in here...i, too, loved michael's dress and outfit for the dog. don't know why it didn't get more recognition. i really thought he could've (should've) won it. unlike alot of you, i liked uli's dress. i don't know that it should've won the whole thing, but i liked it.

maybe it was just me, but i liked katherine's dress. it may have been "simple," but it was the most wearable out of all the outfits. if anything, it was way better than angela's fiasco!

I think that Michael Knight hasn't gotten much air time for two reasons:
1) His pieces have been in the middle in the judges mind scoring-wise; good enough to stay in, but not the top three designs in any of the last few competitions. I agree he had some beautiful pieces..but it's always the "middle" people who don't get much airtime in the beginning cause only the tops and bottoms get to talk about their work (another thing I find somewhat annoying b/c there's often some pieces in the middle I'd love to hear more about).
2) I agree with some other comments, maybe he hasn't done anything extremely dramatic yet...it's all about what's most interesting. I also think it has to do with the fact that he's the only straight guy (or more obviously straight guy) on the cast. He's not your typical male fashion designer. Not that I agree with that being a good reason, but for TV, they love showing the flamboyant designers and their crazy/funny personalities.

I think the problem with the show this season is that they actually found "regular"designers. Ever go to a party with a bunch of designers? They're all thoughtful and quiet... they don't like confrontation or drama... they actually WORK... and think before they speak. You know, they are nice normal people? In fact, when I first heard about Project Runway, I thought... they're following around a bunch of designers? can you get more boring? and this season is proving me right.

I HOPE HOPE HOPE that the person who posted that Michael gets kicked off is completely bonkers. I love Michael and I'm hoping that they haven't interviewd him because he's in the top three. I love that finally TV has a strong black male who is talented, hard working, and quiet... I HOPE he didn't cheat... and I hope that it's that horrible Keith that gets kicked off for being a copycat. (Is it me, or does it seem like Nina Garcia has a crush on him. That's why she's blinded by his clothes. His stuff is nice, but I keep feeling like I've seen it on the runway before.)

Last night, I thought the final three should have been Michael, that weird guy with the tattoo neck (his dress was really cute, no?), and Alison (the coat was adorable but the dress was even more ADORABLE).

Okay, one last thing: How is it that VINCENT didn't get called out as the bottom three? Even though Keith's dog wasn't dressed, he at least sewed a great dress for his model. Vincent made two hats! I HATE HIME.

Why, why, why is Angela still on the show? Her clothes are as hideous as her personality. They are downplaying Michael bcs in the next few weeks, Angela, Vincent and Keith (cheater?) will go. Then the mom/architect (and here I can't begin to express my hatred towards her and her 100% mediocre designs... I knew just what she'd make when I saw her grab that damn rug and I knew the judges would fall for it). The tattoo guy will fall on his face at some point too, right?

Then we've got a lot of likeable people left including the quieter girls (Uli and Alison), the nicer guys (Isaac Mizrahi guy and Beauty Queeen guy), and the contenders (Michael and Bradley). I think the producers are working with what they got, while they still got em.

Loved Uli's dress but do notice that she has pretty much done the same thing every episode. At least it's a decent same thing. I think her stuff really conveys a mood and is wearable for real, non-size 0 people living somewhere besides couture-ville.

WTF with Ivanka Trump? Trite, akward, bitchy, weird (likewise Vera Wang) and BADBAD nosejob(s).

Totally agree that if you didn't design for the dog, you should have gotten the ax. I doubt any of the women or certain of the other guys would have gotten away with that. Again, boo.

Here's my "ignoring Michael" conspiracy theory... Remember last season? Daniel V. was ignored the first few episodes, too. Yes, his first few designs weren't very exciting, but the editors/producers might have minimized his appearances purposely, as it made for a more exciting, "coming from nowhere" story arc, as Daniel started becoming a major player. The same might be happening with Michael. On that note, I'll put this out there: I predict Michael will be one of the top three. It might be wishful thinking, but won't I look smart if I am right!

it's nice to log on and see so many of the same opinion. i agree as well that michael is not getting nearly enough attention considering the qualtiy of his designs. they are both innovative and well made. my hope is that he keeps quietly slipping through, round after round, to end up in the final three. i'd love to see what he'd put together in a final collection.

what concerns me about uli is that she might be a one trick pony. i think alison is strong and interesting as a designer- a worthy contestant. as for keith, he's such a jerk that i'm barely able to appreciate the fact that his clothes are beautifully made. he's like santino, but with none of the comic relief or shreds of vulnerability (at least santino was capable of looking defeated and nervous during judging). i would be happy to see him go.

10:33 AM

it's so nice to find other PR fans who appreciate michael's designs! i definitely think the show is playing him down until more designers are weeded out.

i didn't think it was possible but keith has definitely one upped santino in the ego department. however i doubt he can do a spot on tim gunn impression. ;-) and am the only one who would grab my child & run if a parisian art teacher showed up in angela's outfit?

hopefully, michael kors was on holiday when these episodes were filmed (his bio is still up on bravo's PR season 3 website), but it's still a shame that we have been robbed of his catty comments. can you imagine the delicious bon mots he would have shared these past two weeks?

grace, i also saw that behind-the-scenes with vera wang show & she came off as totally pretentious. she definitely takes herself way too seriously considering she's not saving the world or anything.

I really like Alison's work, it's very sleek and interesting. Angela should have been booted last week for the crap she pulled during the sketching time, she was incredibly rude. About Keith, what is so difficult about following instructions? The whole focus of the assignment was about making an outfit for the dog. The dog. He should have been at least one of the two at the very end.

The best moment of this week's episode was when Uli was describing her story about the fabulous girl who partied too much, had to get up at noon to meet the girlfriends for brunch, then went out for a fabulous shopping spree. Ivanka, looks up and, completely deadpan, says "I get your story." Uhh, YEAH YOU DO! And what's with her title, "VP of Development"?! RIGHT!

Anyway, I agree that Michael is by far one of the stronger designers along with Allison, Kayne, Robert and Uli. I hope it's Keith that gets the boot next week, because talent doesn't make up for a foul personality! Oh poor Angela, she's living on borrowed time.

And is it just me, or is Vincent is a little crazy? And by little, I mean A LOT! He was a little to pleased with that doggie hat...

I also loved the coffee filter dress! Michael's construction is excellent and his work is always good.

They are keeping Angela on because they need a villain.

I feel like the third season of any great show suddenly gets really formulaic.

As for Vera Wang, there was this big article about her in NY Mag last year and she talked about what's "modern" and it was all really weird. She seems like a very intense person and did not come across as being very warm at all. I also miss MK. He was hysterical!

Angela is less a villian and more like the ugly stepsister. Her clothes and taste are just awful and I've groaned in utter pain the last two weeks when she made it through. The transparency of the producers is obvious with her continued survival. At least Malan and Katherine had a sense of style, and Malan seemed like a character. I felt bad for him when he went. So far, I'm a big fan of Alison's stuff, it's very clean and modern.

My guess is the Vincent is going to get kicked off. In the preview for episode 4 Tim clearly seems to be knocking on the door for the guys apartment, thus limiting who can be kicked off to the guys. We know that next episode features teams of 3 designers (Michael, Laura, Angela = a team; Vincent, Kayne, Robert = team; Uli, Bradley, Bonnie = team; Keith Jeffrey Allison = team). There seems to be some controversy between the Vincent, Kayne, Robert team with Vincent being the odd man out and we all know that he is crazy enough to do something to break the rules...

It is interesting to note, however, that the Keith, Jeffrey, Allison team were NOT included in the previews for the next episode. Not sure what this could mean; nonetheless, my guess as to who gets kicked off is Vincent.

I could not stand Vincent. He is anyone's worst nightmare. Hell he reminds me of a boss my father would recount who one moment would be all smiles, the next bitching and hating the world. Vincent was a complete ass. Sure Angela was no easy person to deal with but doesn't Vincent complete meltdown spell the fact that he wouldn't (once again) make it? Figure this, replace Angela with an irate customer (who might be irate for irate's sake or because of Vincent or because of both) and what is he going to do? Flip out and make that customer stand three feet away from him at all times? Make that customer leave and not pay attention to their input (despite the fact that would know more about their style/body type)? I'm sorry but his "you can't work on this" berating on Angela (no wait Allison) probably is what put her off to begin with. Though I must say Angela annoyed me when she was offering her critique of Vincent's work because you know that female sentiments of the board would have felt so sorry for Vincent and have carried him under their wings... she should have solely focused on what a horrible leader he was...
