project runway

pr

ok i just watched the episode because i fell asleep super early last night. first impressions: barbie man should have gone home. that coat could have been in my dad's northface catalog. ick. and why didn't they just tack the skirt again so it didn't have that high slit? ugh. anyway, i was so dissapointed that the big "kick off" was so anti-climactic. but i guess we all know about his copying now, so it's like a one-two punch. either way, a little boring. but i love alison, can she just win now based on her phenomenal personal wardrobe? i want to buy everything she wears on the show. including her hair. so cute. ok, dish away...should keith have been cut for the books? should robert have stayed? has hell frozen over because i liked angela's outfit in a tiny way? [hey! at least we saw more michael!]

[more PR fun right here and here]

Oh thank God, I thought we weren't going to talk PR today!

I agree, Robert should have gone home. As much as I love him, what a miss!

I also found myself liking Angela's design but I think it was because of Michael and the "glamorous" woman's help.

Am I the only one that thinks Michael isn't being talked about because his work sucks??

Oh whatever, Michael has tons of talent. People always say the rudest things when they can stay anonymous.

I think Angela was smart to let Michael and the red haired woman take over some of the details. I think she has good intentions but her taste level is a little, um, questionable?

I completely agree that it was Michael and glam woman who made Angela's design work. If she had her way with it, she would have used the fabric they lined it with as some sort of patchwork nightmare on the back-make that, a patchwork nightmare of little rosettes.

But I really wanted good hair girl and tat man to win the challenge--their ability to complete it with just two people (and so beautifully) made me a total believer in both of them (which I pretty much already was but any tiny doubts I might have had about either one of them have been wiped out).

I was one of the folks (apparently in the minority) who felt Angela was in the right last week when Vincent essentially booted her off his team, and was pleased to see she has since picked up a few pointers on taste, style, cooperation, and leadership. But, to give credit, Vincent also stood by his team leader when they were under the gun.

I realize it was a close call between Robert and Bonnie, but, while both got dinged for design, Bonnie also got dinged for cheap fabric, so I would have booted her as well.

After the rumors about Keith's portfolio, I thought it was a bit of misdirection on the producers' part. However, after hearing about both the hidden books and his 'disappearance', kicking him off was the right thing to do.

Angela seriously has NO taste. She has style, it's just not a very tasteful style. I think she'd be good at designing clothes for Barbie or another doll. Her clothes feel like stage costumes or something else over-the-top.

i totally agree grace... allison is so cute (i want her clothes & her hair too) and i think barbie man should have been out.

i would have liked to see more work by keith-- but he broke the rules so i don't have much sympathy for him. i would be a little embarrassed if i were kayne though, for being the snitch...

You're right, Lena! I forgot about Kayne. I felt a little like "eesh, did you have to get that bitchy about it".

I was impressed when Keith walked in, apologized and said he understood why they were upset and why they told on him. I thought that was the classiest way to go out (though he was horribly un-classy). But when Kayne said "But do you see you brought this on your yourself??" I was like, dude, get over it, you got him kicked off, drop it!

michael kors is back next week!!!!! YES!

I think sometimes they keep people around for potential. Robert may be able to pull it out of the hat, but I'm betting if he doesn't show it by next week he's the next one cut. So glad Keith is gone, he had some nerve talking about how he would be a laughing stock...um hello maybe if you didn't cheat? And finally...Angela took me by surprise, but yes we have to give credit to her team for reigning her in.
Also I think most people didn't pay attention to this but Michael stepped in to style the model to make sure the outfit fit the bill. Kuods on that!

Just got an email from Macy's that...the winning outfit is now available on macys.com and in select stores. So if you're hankering for some rosettes...

My jaw dropped when the INC rep chose Angela as a team leader. I totally agree that is was Michael and Laura reigning her in that made the outfit work. On her own, I don't think she has what it takes. I honestly can't believe she's made it this far.

And while it was bitchy of Kayne to rat Keith out, he really had it coming!

Now, I'm the first to admit that i know very little about the intricacies of fashion design. BUT, does anyone else feel like the kicking off had a slight 'Fahrenheit 451' vibe to it?

At first I used to tease my husband that he had a crush on Alison, but now I'm starting to think I do! I love her wardrobe and hair.

Also: Both Kayne and Robert were catty when Keith delivered his nice apology. Am I the only one who thinks those two have something going on?

I completely agree with everyone, Michael's coat was absolutely hideous, but Bonnies moo moo was pretty bad.

I felt it difficult to like Skittles girl Angela, but she worked well as a team and let Michael and Laura use their input and she won.

Now Kieth in my opinion is a dirt bag I knew that from the beginning, even though I loved his first dress it was gorgeous.

Go Allison, I hope she wins not only is she fashionable but she's adorable inside and out!

As unexciting as Bonnie's outfit was, I think that Robert's outfit was worse. It was less INC and more Rampage-meets-Patagonia.
Like many other posters here, I agree that Laura and Michael saved Angela's outfit from becoming the rosette trainwreck it could have been.
I felt some empathy for Keith, because I believe his arrogance is really insecurity. It's a shame, because underneath that facade I think he has a lot of talent. His comments indicated that he frequently engages in self-sabotage. Rules are rules, and it's clear that he broke them and needed to be removed. However, I hope he doesn't give up on himself and his dreams because of an error in judgment.
Finally, I'm so pleased to hear that Kors will be back next week. I hope he enjoyed his two-week getaway at L'Orange Tanning Salon.

I like Allison alot and thought she andtattoo guy did great as a two man team. I detested Keith, so glad he is gone. I love Robert and Kayne, but I do agree Robert's was a dissappointment. I thought Angela was smart enough to know you back yourself up with good people. I think she has ok ideas, but she has few skills that the other two do have. I think Michael has incredible skills, we just have not seen them yet. And, I think Angela was not the evil bitch everyone made her out to be re: the Vincent thing. She shouldn't have bad mouthed him, but he was awful to her. Everytime she tried to help him, he would shoo her off and tell her to stand 3 feet away from him. I realllly don't like Vincent either. But I never like the bitchy, over the top characters. I like the nice guys.

Okay, I'm starting to feel like I like this d*s bitch sessions better than the actual show.

First: Keith is a complete cheater jerk. That apology was so fake, I wanted to throw my apple at the TV. And I agree that the kick off was a bit anticlimactic, but I respect the producers for not letting the incident take over the whole show and competition. If anything, I wished they would have made this particular show longer so we could get more comments from Tim, the judges, and the designers.

As for Kayne being a rat... I totally agreed with his actions. This isn't "Survivor" where the winner only gets 15 minutes of fame. This is a legitimate design competition that has MAJOR ramifications for the top three finalists -- like the kind of career exposure that could amount to worth millions of dollars. Keith is a serial cheater. And personally, I think he would have hung himself even without Kayne.

And finally, my main comment is about Macy's. Let's be honest here, that store has slipped in the past few years. Who even shops there except grannies and cash-strapped teenagers who aren't cool enough to pull off Target finds? So it was NO surprise to me that they picked Angela to be one of the team leaders. In fact, with the exception of Keith's coat, I thought all four of the team leaders' designs were completely UNfashionable. (Alison and Michael should have been picked... even Jeffrey would have been better if they are trying to be fashion forward!) Anyway, when I saw the final designs on the runway, I knew for sure Angela won. It totally looks like something Macy's would have in their window.. and believe me, that's not a compliment.

Okay, one last comment about them kicking off Bonnie... who I liked! Yeah, her outfit was pretty grandma, but it was definitely better than Roberts (who I think was given a second chance because he is semi-known in NY as a rising star). Robert's jacket... oh my gosh... I think Northface DID have a jacket like that... in 1995! Despite the cowl neck and high-waisted brown pants that Bonnie created, at least I can see SOMEONE might wear that (like my aunt who has 20 cats). Robert's outfit was neither here nor there... not sexy, not conservative, not sporty, not cute, not serious... it was a total mess. I designing for Barbie has warped his impression of what women will wear.

Go Alison! I hope she wins...

Keith's "apology" was passive-aggressive and totally insincere, he was essentially just blaming the other contestants for ratting on him rather than owning up to his mistake.

even though bradley made the pants for bonnie's losing design, i still really like him. he seems really easy-going, unlike most of the others.

and i'm not sure why nina garcia was hating so much on cowlnecks!

12:32 PM
Blogger Valerie said...

Nina was being needlessly mean, I think, b/c she was trying to fill MK's shoes as "the bitchy judge."

Bonnie's jacket was great I thought, and the sweater thing was a bit blah and shapeless but Robert's outfit was FAR worse. Like Heidi said, each peice had nothing to do with the other. AND: how could all three of those guys (who we have seen construct things properly) so *completely* botch a simple pencil skirt with a back slit?

12:50 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree that Kayne was a little bitchy but if I had been around Keith and found out he was cheating, I would have done the exact same thing. Kayne is all about the drama and I love it!

I hate the fact that I HATED Robert's design, but it was a total miss. I really like him, but it is a competition and he should have gone home.

Did anyone catch that "prize" at the end of the show where you could win a shopping spree with Angela?! Uhhh... no thanks.

Here's something weird that I saw last weekend: a pic of Robert, with a caption underneath that called him a "PR finalist". I thought that was really weird and possibly a slip up on someone's part (b/c the finalists are already known by some--they must be working on their collections now since Fashion Week is in September.) Last night, I thought "surely not!" but when he wasn't eliminated I had to wonder again. I wish I could remember where I saw this--part of me thinks it was in the Parade "magazine" that comes with our local sunday paper.

clothes-pin, thanks for the link. i love nick. he is hilarious. michael and laura saved angela's butt for sure... glad to see keith go and please don't scare me... robert can NOT be a finalist... his design was SO TERRIBLE... the barbie man is a mediocre designer at best... i can not believe that they chose bonnie... yeah...michael kors is back next week... and i shop in macy's but only for the shoes... LOL!

agree with so many of the sentiments above, and also, even though keith SAID that he didn't use the books, i think he did. the way he said it, looking down??? i think he was a complete cheater, and even if kayne didn't "tattle" the producers still would have found out. they were talking about it on camera.

i think they chose angela's team because it seems more fair to pick a winner of someone who is still IN the competition vs. someone who got kicked out. even though adorable allison and jeffrey made the outfit, the design wasn't theirs. it was keith's, and i'm sure there was some weird legal thing that because he was kicked off they couldn't use the design. though angela's still felt more "macy's" to me anyway.

I was surprised at how well Keith handled himself. Last week, I was ready to see him go but he almost won me over with his apology. I have disliked team competitions in the past but seeing "jeffrey & alison" and "michael, laura & angela" has changed my mind. They really worked well together. While I was disappointed with Roberts jacket the rest of the outfit was fine. I was also glad that they switched up models. When they just ask the winner, it becomes some test of loyalty rather than a desire to work with the best model.

cheers,

Michael can do it all. Plus he's cute AND nice. He and Laura seemed to have forged a bond which results in making stylish garment that are well made. I could definited see a M&L line.

Why can't they bring Malan back?
