aba sasaako

cu04

kristina and i were talking about european design trends and she mentioned that pieces with an african influence seem to be popping up more and more lately. the bold patterns and richly colored textile traditions of africa seem to be creeping into furniture, tableware and textiles these days and i thought these gorgeous pillows from designer aba sasaako were a great example. british born ghanaian, aba sasaako set out to create a range of modern accessories that combine contemporary fashion with african culture. the result is a beautiful collection of cushions, runners, clothing and more that exude the vibrancy and warmth of african design. click here to see aba's full collection [i think that yellow and blue pillow is especially lovely]

It's nice to see something different and fresh. I live in South Africa and it's wonderful to see patterns native to my country being celebrated abroad, rather than marginalized as "ethnic".

I live in South Africa as well, Cyndy but I don't take offense to the term "ethnic". I think it's a badge to wear with pride in an industry that's awash with things that all look alike. I'm proud of my heritage and our traditions.
