calling all letterpress designers
letterpress is one of the things i hear about most from d*s readers. people want to know who's best, who has the lowest prices and who will do custom jobs for small numbers. rather than answer the same email a hundred times over i figured i would compile a comprehensive letterpress guide for the site (along the lines of my brooklyn design guide). that way people can access the guide, find out about designers in their area and learn a bit about the process and what to expect in terms of pricing. so, if you're a letterpress designer, or have a friend who is, please email me here to be considered for the guide. please include your website, location, descriptions of the work you offer (if you offer custom work please include that with average prices and your minimum order #s) and your contact information. look for the guide in early november...the cards above are mav's d*s shop design in the making
[please do not leave contact information or business info for the guide in the comment section. in the comments section i've included a list of designers already on my list. please check to see if your suggestion is already on there...]

That is such a wonderful initiative! Would it also be possible to include overseas business information? I am in Australia and am having a hard time finding any letterpress printers around bere :)
I have not told you this before, but I have been reading your blog for such a long time now and I absolutely LOVE it! Thank you so very much for all the time and effort you put into this magnificent blog.
thanks nancy :)
of course! i'll try to find someone and will of course include any great companies that come my way regardless of location.

I've been looking into this. I'm very pleased to find someone with the resources to undertake such a task. Thank you.
My particular interest is finding a letterpress outfit taking ideas from online printers who offer template offset business cards/letterhead for discount prices. I expect to pay more and hope the balance is better paper choices or colors.
That said, let me add oneheartpress in San Francisco, CA to your list. They're a printer on the other end of my spectrum.
Looking forward to the results. Good Luck.
PS. I already corresponded with Carrot and Stick, Emeryville, CA. Suzie informed me "We print only our own designs here".
How about Delphine and Pointed Press?

When will the guide be available?
I do hope this list will not be NY centric...

What about Russell Sloane?
At the Chicago Renegade Craft fair, I visited the booth of the newly-formed Golden Hen Press.
I bought some stunning cards from them. Their Web site is just a placeholder, but here's a link to their flickr page.

Marsville Letterpress.
They did an excellent job on a custom invitation for me -- and it was a small job (50). Really a work of art. Easy to deal with and in the US we can take advantage of the good exchange rate with Canada!

I look forward to the post on Golden Hen.
Let me suggest Emily of Emprint.net. She lives in Nebraska. She does custom work, including design. I found her through Etsy!
