embroidery in chelsea

while lugging my air mattress out of bed bath & beyond i was lured into the chelsea west elm by the smell of cinnamon (candles). it was right across the street so i tried to tell myself it was ok to stop in. low and behold i totally loved about a dozen pillows. yes, west elm is well known for ripping people off but i'm hoping these designs aren't taken from anyone we know...are they? they didn't remind me of any specific design so i thought they might be safe. i'm a sucker for blue and green so this little throw pillows was right up my alley (along with the embroidered hedgehog, deer and owl pillows). pretty subtle and sweet for west elm. most people have major beef with this shop, but if you're looking for a little pillow update they have some decently cute new styles. click here to check them out and shop online...[i wonder if this embroidery trend has hit its peak yet? i sort of hope it hasn't...]

embroidery isn't a fad technique...it's been done for ages...

now, if you said "I wonder if the dog food painting trend will wear off soon", i might agree...

oh i'm a fan of these too. especially the needlepoint pillow. how 'bout needlepoint as the latest crafty trend? i just noticed urban outfitters carries a few kits online...hmmm. i hope embroidery isn't out though. i sure do fancy some of that...

what's with the west elm bashing?

i personally try to stay away from bashing anything as much as possible but most people on this site tend to have a problem with the way that west elm knocks off other designers (including smaller independent designers) frequently...

that's not a bad idea. it sure would be a heated one...i wonder how they'd deal with the copying thing...

Depends on if you asked them the copying thing and in what terms!!! Maybe it could be like the Geraldo Rivera episode where he got smashed over the head with a chair.

keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Just got the new WE catalog and ripped out the hedgehog pillow page for future reference. Yum.

A hedgehog! Oh, you have me there. I think I'd rather make my own than purchase something that may be a knock-off. Uncool of West Elm.
