peace industry

3

i stopped by rare device yesterday to see jill bliss' new shop window (the opening reception is this weekend!) and spent some time sitting on a new peace industry rug inside the shop. i was really taken with the quality of the rug- the pattern was so soft and subtle and the coloring was spot on. so when i got home i thought i'd check out what's new with peace industry and it looks like they've updated the site since i last mentioned them. this season peace industry (which is the work of designer melina raissnia) has introduced some really gorgeous fall-colored rugs in rich oranges and yellows. prices tend to be around $1500 so they're not a budget buy, but they're definitely worth investing in if you're looking for an earth-friendly rug that will really make a statement. they're really more like art for the floor than a standard rug. i highly recommend checking out the full collection right here. enjoy!

Wow, they're beautiful, but insanely expensive. I am on a quest for an area rug that is bright & colorful (the only one I like thus far is the Dots rug at CB2) but durable enough to stand up to 3 cats. Or at least must be able to take daily vacuuming. Or be inexpensive enough to be fairly disposable... Any input appreciated.

just shoot me an email. i'll happily find you some choices via email, i prefer to deal with requests there instead of the comments section.

also, if you want a sizable (and sturdy) area rug you do need to be prepared to shell out a couple hundred bucks. the nice ones are going to be between $300 and $600. $1500 is pricey but area rugs that can stand up to cats tend to be...

also, I believe Melina's rugs are all handmade using traditional techniques (that are quite labor intensive and time consuming). I'd say they are a fair price.

I'm delighted to see mention of a product local to me. The Peace Industry rugs are truly works of art I can tell you from first hand knowledge. They are unlike anything else on the market, and Melina and Dodd are two of the nicest people. It's worth a visit to their showroom in Hayes Valley if you are ever in San Francisco, and otherwise worth looking up any vendor who sells them. The price per square foot for these rugs is a steal for the quality and craftsmanship.
