laura normandin

lately i've been really inspired by the work of laura normandin (the artist behind wren handmade and sufjan steven's beautiful michigan album). i'm in the process of redesigning d*s right now (more to come on that soon) so i've been collecting little bits of inspiration here and there. laura's work is high on my list because she has the most wonderful way with color and texture. her "mercy seat" collection really caught my eye and gave me so many ideas for the site. each piece in the "mercy seat" series is made from cutouts using found materials. i love the way she incorporated such vivid colors against the grey, almost kraft-papery background. you can view the "mercy seat" series right here and check out the rest of laura's artwork- it's really something to see. (be sure to check out the hair embroidery- wow)
