it looks like they just placed the yarn on a scanner and scanned it, which is actually a great way to get color and depth out of an object if you don't have a really nice camera...
I used to work in a yarn store and I'd scan our yarns on a flatbed scanner too as colour, texture and yarn dimensions can show up much more authentically that way than painstakingly trying to capture them all in a photograph. Tigerlilly's shot has a lovely, organic look.
