Being from Chicago myself (Lincoln Park in da hiz-ouse!!), it's people like Emily that make that city such a vibrant creative place. Her place is so tastefully furnished, with so much personality in each nuance. Thanks for this very cool sneak peak.

Will this be up on the Flickr site? I would love to mark some of the photos as favorites!

Does anyone notice the one common thread in all of these sneak peeks is the presence of at least one cat?

there aren't larger versions of these photos available so i'm afraid there won't be a flickr slideshow for this sneak peek.

Points for neatness, great fabrics, and a swell cat.

A finger wag for a door on sawhorses posing as a desk, and Ikea shoe holders-as-file holders on the wall.

A finger wag? I'd say a thumbs up for thinking outside the box.

Heaven forbid we use objects for something other than their intended purpose, Miss Lo.

no, she's right... IKEA called them "shoe holders" and that is what I should be using them for. Shame on me. For a minute there, I thought I was a creative person. I was wrong.

:)
thanks for standing up for the non-suburbanites, Jacqui.

No problem- between this person and the other one complaining about $30 photographs above I think I've fallen into the twilight zone. Since when were reasonable prices and creativity a crime???

the great thing about the desk is that it doesn't look like a door on sawhorses. and by the way, those are some awfully pretty sawhorses- i work in the construction industry and they DO NOT usually look so clean ...or have shelving!
great job. great space. and now i'm absolutely green with envy!

I don't think those are shoe holders. And those "sawhorses" seem to offer shelving....

Such a beautiful home! Thanks for sharing with us!

jd :: for fear that someone may discipline me for loving IKEA, I will tell you that those white chairs are... from IKEA. They're called POANG - and they're uber-comfortable. The other big plus for me is that they're pretty much cat-proof (unlike some of our other furniture ;)

and for jd - and all others interested - I'll be putting up a post later today (Friday) on the SCOOP with details about all the items that people have been asking about...

where oh where did you find the square print fabric in the top photo on your lefthand cabinet?

also, i must say your mismatched frames are a refreshingly neat version from the over-done combinations i have seen in the past.

nice work.

I wouldn't mind if it was actually creative, but I've been seeing this in everything from dorm rooms to artist studios for the past couple years. nothing against Ikea - they actually have some really nice design, especially lately.

I just didn't think this room was particularly noteworthy. Loved the rest.

Emily, I am an Ikea fan myself - I am a huge fan of the Snille chair.

I am also aware that the sawhorses come from Ikea - they call it "Vika".

So I suppose my comment was meant for the editorial and not the room - the apartment is lovely, but that shot should have been left out.

that is a great computer/work station--is the table from ikea?

tammijean :: that square print is actually a paper that I picked up at Paper Source about 3 years back... it's lovely, isn't it!? I have two sheets left that I'm dying to make some books out of...

Miss Lo :: you should've quit while you were ahead.

olive :: just the legs are from IKEA... and the top is a hollow-core door from a hardware store. Since we've always got a lot of projects going on, it's good for us to have a mobile desk where we can easily (and cheaply) replace the work surface.
