chmoebel

gstaad

ok, now this post is reminding me of lord of the rings and smeagol. because for some reason i keep wanting to pronounce this company's name like "schmee-bel" and that rhymes with "smeagol". anyway, it reminds me of college and laughing hysterically about the part where smeagol says, "what's taters?" over and over. don't ask. some things are just funnier when repeated over and over late at night when you should be writing a thesis on romanesque illuminated manuscripts...

chmoebel is a line of modern, swiss furniture designed by swiss architect, christian frey. the goal of chmoebel is to "exhibit swiss qualities of aesthetics and efficiency." they've surely done that with their minimalist line of furnishings that currently grace the lounge of gstaad, a swiss-themed bar in ny. all of the pieces can be assembled without the use of any nails, screws, glue or any other fasteners or adhesives. not bad. i'm not sure how comfy they'd be to lounge in for too long, but there's something about the look that i really like. i know they're super simple, but there's something to be said for efficiency of design. i just like em. esp in the installation shot at gstaad. so now i'll have to drag my anti-social self out to gstaad and see it in person. you can find more info on chmoebel here. or if you're in ny, have a martini for me at gstaad.
