moderntots is an online, brooklyn-based (yay!) children's design boutique that was created in 2005 to, "let a new standard of style into kids' rooms". moderntots believes, "the simplicity and elegance of modern design that we buy for ourselves is perfectly suited to the space in which children eat, sleep, wash and play. our mission is to seek out where these exceptional furnishings are being created and to find ways to bring them to you. we network with artists and designers with the highest standards of quality, style and originality...all of the products offered at moderntots are practical, well-crafted, and genuinely beautiful."

the products at moderntots are outstanding- grouped into categories, as well as by age (infant-teen), the collection is full of all sorts of fun accessories, great new storage options and fuzzy rugs to nap on. my favorites are: big bang/little bang lights, cromosomo j storage box, mox and box, mox box, the fuji toy box, cojines (LOVE IT!), the squat bench, iball chair, the boo rack and the topissimo rug. more information and the whole collection right here. enjoy!

No kidding... why pay a lot of money for something a kid is going to grow out of in a few years (and in the meantime, probably destroy)??

It's true, most things that are available right now for kids and are considered "good designs" are very expensive. Most of which are manufactured by small mom and pop shops, parents/designers
who are trying to bring something better to this market.
Small production is very expensive and drives the retail price up.
Hopefully as the interest grows these companies will be able to find ways to increase their production and lower their cost.
I have learned this the hard way through my experience with my own company for kids furniture and my retail store.

Have a great Day!

What a great site! We really like what they are doing, and the mix that they present. We really like the Seed light and the mox and box. Great job moderntots!

I agree. This site is very expensive and not for normal (rich) kids. I like David Nhetto's (sp?) children's furniture more but its in the same price range. I don't have kids yet but when I do (hopefully soon!) I'll be buying from ikea, pottery barn kids and target.

Interesting discussion. At first, I thought it was great that someone created such unique pieces for children, but then everyone made the point that these are kids we're dealing with. Maybe this furniture more appeals to the PARENTS, who wish they had this cool furniture when they were kids. Still, beautiful stuff, even if not exactly "realistic" for the average kid who draws with his crayon on everything.

They, Modern Tots, have such a great variety of beautiful furniture and great gift ideas. We are expecting our 2nd child this January and I love their gift registry: www.moderntots.com/go_play/giftregs.php

4 years ago when we had our first son there was very little quality, hip childerns furniture out there, it's a wonderful website. Is there any word on them opening a store.

overpriced & boring!

all this originality in design is becoming so unoriginal!

my daughter would prefer a cinderella chair over a hard Argington chair anyday.....please!

Give us a break! this stuff is for .0001% of the population.
