yippee: one down...

i've been hunting for a vintage credenza for our living room for what feels like ages. and, in a shocking turn of events, i won my first ebay live auction and picked up a great little american piece! i love the gold (brass?) detailing and louvered doors. i'm going to have to go pick it up in philly, but i figured i'd just make a day trip of it. should be fun. also fun? i just heard from goil's lovely carpenter, sarah and it looks like we might get some extra insight from my favorite designer/carpenter team. fingers crossed...

Love it! I have been searching for something similar for my living room. Unfortunately, I haven't had as much luck as you!

Great pick!

thanks guys! i was so psyched to find it and have it NOT get out of hand with a bidding war. everything i've been looking at outside of ebay (at regular home stores in nyc) was costing me upwards of $600 or $700 and this won't be near that, even with the car to go pick it up. hooray!

Grace, You bought my mother's dresser!!!!!
I don't know if you could possibly remember, but I had asked how to get rid of some mid century furniture, but you weren't sure. So I guess I'll use e-bay, because you just bought a piece of the set I'm trying to get rid of. There are dining chairs, a dining table, a highboy, mirror and bedside table with a fold-down drawer. Come to California, it all could be yours!! JS Anderson

nice win. I was down there in Aston at the auction house. You got a good one. A lot of the stuff was pretty beat down, but there are some diamonds in the rough. You'll have to make the modern rounds in Philly.

WOW. I have the exact same piece, inherited from my grandparents. It's part of a whole bedroom set, though we sold the headboard and don't use the set all together. I love it too! I think you got a good deal.

Love the credenza and Goil too. But more importantly, I loved the color of Matt's hotel room. Any way to find out which Pratt and Lambert color he used?

Oo, very funky! Nothing like winning an item you desperately want on Ebay to put you in a good mood! Big or small- my latest Ebay find was a framed 1970s cross-stitch sampler for 99p and I was overjoyed!!

Dixie, the name of the color Matt used is White Smoke by Pratt & Lambert.

I'm so jealous! I've been looking for a credenza for a long time and haven't found one I really want yet. This one is really interesting since it has the drawers down the left side but they're made to look like a panel or a cabinet door.

In order to be fair to Grace, I have uploaded what photos I have of the furniture to flickr. The set is called Mom's Furniture, the pics have numbers like DSC04037 and I'm JS Anderson, so hopefully you'll be able to find it. Please communicate with me through flickr so we can appreciate design*sponge comments here.

how funny!
my grandmother had an entire set of this stuff (picked out by my mom). currently i have two of the nightstands in my apartment (with the same white formica drawers inside and same door pulls). I was just photographing & measuring the other pieces to see if/where they'll fit in the apartment my husband & i are in the process of buying!

love it love it love it

question: the old furniture has a certain smell to it - the wood in the drawers or something. if you figure out how to get rid of it - let me know!
